Sunscreens: What, Why, Which, When?

Hello! Welcome to Let’s Book. Sunscreens are really important. Why? Just keep reading. If you don’t know any terms you can look end of the article.

What?

Sunscreen can be creams, sprays, lotions, sticks, gels, oils, butters, pastes. And it will protect your skin. You can choose one of them which you like.

First, it should be protect you. Then it should be easy and comfortable.

Why?

Sunscreens can protect you skin cancer, aginging, burning and spot. So you can do travel freely even in 4 season and in the beaches.

We know two types of Ulraviolet type got risks.

Ultraviolet A (UVA)

It is associated with skin aging & spot & sunburn. When you trying to be tann, UVA rays will do this. Actually your skin trying to protect itself with being dark. Being tann is not safe or healthy. UVA will damage you.

Ultraviolet B (UVB)

It is associated with sunburning.

These two types of rays damage our skin. Damage from UV is cumulative. While time, your body won’t repair whole DNA damage. It means you will open a door to some cancer and tumors.

Sunscreens are not recommended for babies. If their doctor didn’t say.

Which?

In this point, I won’t suggest any brand. But I will tell you what is the best sunscreen. (We are learning to Fish🙂)

The SPF Value

SPF value should be up as much as possible. (usually, minimum 30 SPF is recommended.)

UVA&UVB Protector

Your sunscreen should be protect UVA & UVB rays, not one of two. It should be both. (Some brand label them “Broad spectrum“.)

Skin Type

I told you when starting the article, sunscreens have many forms. (ex: cream or spray) But when you choose one of them, now you should choose a brand for which is good for your skin type. (Don’t worry, you do this one-time but when you find your best sunscreen you can buy it life-time.🙂)

Don’t you know your skin type? Okey, okey I will tell you this too. We peoples have different skin type. If you thinking any problem with your skin, you should talk with your healthcare provider.

  • If your skin is neither too dry nor too oily; you have “normal skin”.
  • If you have a fragile skin which is reaction to heat, tightness, redness, itching… If you are feeling to easy discomfort; you have “Sensitive Skin”. (You should try a lot brand…If you want a suggestion; may a sunscreen which is got minerals can help you.)
  • The “Dry Skin”; It is dry. You can choose a sunscreens which is got hydrating ingredients.
  • The “Oily skin”; it has bright and humid.
  • The “Combination Skin”; Based on its location on your body, oily or dry skin. (for ex: may your nose is oily skin but your cheeks are dry skin.)

All 5 types are healthy, if you take care of them they probably won't bother you. Also you may first trying “non-comedogenic” is a good idea.

Remember: Best sunscreen for your skin won’t irritation your skin and protect your skin.

When?

Protect yourself every day, even when it’s cloudy. (UVA is almost everywhere).

Some factors:
  • Probably, If you have white skin (or fair skin) you will more absorb more solor energy. And If you have black skin (or off color) you will less absorb less solor energy.
  • Your Geolocation.
  • Skin type.
  • Sun Intensity.
  • Cloudy weather: Clouds absorb sun energy.
  • Time in Day: Usually when noon; sun intensity high level.
  • How much time you spend in the sun during the day.
  • Use more sunscreen, increase protect.
  • Frequency of use during the day. If you are doing more activity in the day you will more sweat. (We travellers, doing this.) This “sweat” will delete your sunscreen. So you should use sunscreen again. Usually, as you get used to using it, you can feel the lack and use it to yourself.
  • Usually using before the going to sun 15-30 minute is good idea.
  • Use it for your whole body but avoiding to use for the eyes and don’t eat it.
